I am a native of Louisiana. I
moved to the Houston area five years ago to further
my education and gain some teaching experience in an
urban setting. I have wanted to be a teacher since I
was in elementary school. My dad tells me that when
I was young, I would gather all of the neighborhood
children to play school. He told me I would make
them complete assignments from tattered textbooks we
had at the house.
PAST
When I
attended
Vinton High School, I was a member of about a
dozen extracurricular clubs, including three
athletic teams (football, basketball, and baseball).
I am also the president of the Class of 1996. Although my school life revolved around sports, I knew that
I did not have the talent to professionally pursue
this dream, so I decided to focus on academics in
college.
I attended
McNeese State University in Lake
Charles, Louisiana for my undergraduate degree in
Secondary English Education. I received a minor in
computer studies, and I am nine credit hours shy of a degree
in French and 12 hours shy of another in Spanish.
While in college, I was the executive editor of the
university’s campus newspaper
The Contraband for
three years. I was also the editor of the literary
magazine The Arena and the sports and
photography editor of The Log, the campus
yearbook. I was the student senator for
Sigma Tau Delta,
the International English Honor Society and a member
of Blue Key Honor
Society and
Circle K
International. I was also a Blue/Gold Peer
Leader and an MSU Ambassador. During my senior year, I was
voted Homecoming King and was a finalist for the
title of Mr. McNeese.
I
taught five years of English III and IV at
Mayde Creek
High School in the
Katy Independent School District.
At "The Creek," I sponsored the Class of 2005 and
2008, the National Honor Society, and Best Buddies.
During that time, I also earned a Master’s degree in
Instructional Technology at the
University of
Houston.
PRESENT
Currently, I teach Advanced Placement
English Literature and Composition at
Memorial High School in the
Spring Branch Independent School District. This
is my second year in SBISD.
